The artist has given the complete sum of his £25,000 honor prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to save the UK's independent concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his new release People Watching was named the top album of the past year.

Fender has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in recognition of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported locations that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties caused by water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted funding support in improving amenities and technical equipment that directly benefitted musicians and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from performances in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.
