Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the party access places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Planners groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
